During the Comic-Con@Home panel for Lovecraft Country, the stars debuted a new clip from the upcoming show.

The clip shows Atticus (Jonathan Majors) and his friends opening a secret passageway inside a statue.

You can watch the clip during the panel below. (The clip begins at the 41 minute mark.)

Lovecraft Country follows Atticus Black (Jonathan Majors) on his journey to find his missing father. Atticus, his Uncle George, and his friend Letitia embark on a road trip across 1950’s Jim Crow America. The series finds the characters struggling with not only the racism of white America, but terrifying monsters straight out of an H.P. Lovecraft story.

The horror series from HBO draws on both the social issues and classic monsters to scare the audience.

“I was a huge fan of The Twilight Zone, which reminds me of Lovecraft… It’s the socially charged mixed with the bizarre,” said Michael Kenneth Williams. Williams plays Atticus’ missing father, Montrose.

During the Comic-Con panel, the cast praised the show for its social timeliness, its well-developed characters, and its scary sci-fi monsters. Courtney B. Vance, who plays Uncle George, had his own ringing endorsement for the series.

“Watch Lovecraft Country because it is so different, and so engaging. You thought you had something going on with Game of Thrones, but watch out!” said Vance.

The series is based on a 2016 novel by Matt Ruff and is executive produced by Jordan Peele (Get Out) and J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker). It premieres on HBO on August 16.
