Big week for Captain Marvel fans! There’s some drama going around with some fans petitioning Brie Larson to be replaced for the upcoming sequel. But the news is not all bad. ‘Captain Marvel 2’ is officially in works with ‘WandaVision’ writer Megan McDonnell. (Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck weren’t renewed for the second installment as initially speculated. )

Captain Marvel 2 gets new writer

Captain Marvel‘ was a very controversial movie. Even though critics gave it a good certified score in Rotten Tomatoes, some fans felt otherwise. The audience score on the film stands in a 49% with people feeling like the movie could’ve delivered more. Further more the ones blamed were the film-making duo of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. The duo known for movies like Sugar (2008), It’s Kind of a Funny Story (2010), Mississippi Grind (2015). Although Marvel doesn’t seem to be cutting all ties with these filmmakers. It’s now speculated that they might be in negotiations to work on a possible Disney+ series. For Captain Morvel 2, however, Marvel is committed to Megan McDonnell.

Expectations for ‘Captain Marvel 2’

Even though we don’t know a lot about Captain Marvel’s sequel, we have enough clues and pieces to get a general idea of what to expect. The film is set to be taken place on present day rather than in the past as it was the case on the last film. Other than Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson returning we can’t help but wonder who from the first film might make a come back.

As seen in ‘Spiderman: Far From Home’ Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) , a skrull in the first movie, was spotted living on earth in the present day. Indicating that if there is any trouble involving earth he would be one of the ones to contact Carol. Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch) might make an appearance as an older version of herself. Most importantly, her daughter Monica Rambeau might be a more crucial character. As many fans might know Monica Rambeau in the comics eventually gets powers and becomes a version of Captain Marvel herself. The new film might explore giving her some powers and fighting along side Carol. Would be a perfect opportunity to do it as Monica’s character would be of age to do so.

Super villains vs. Superpowers

Carol’s powers were restricted by the Kree in the first film until the final battle scene where she gains full power and takes everybody down. This The film wouldn’t have been as good had she have her powers the whole time due to the quick way she defeated her enemies. In ‘Avengers: Endgame’ she saves the day and shows us once again how insanely powerful she can be. Due to this, the new sequel’s villain has to be as powerful as Carol to be able to stand a chance.

Yon Rogg’s return is also possible as Carol speared his life and sent him back to the Kree. Also some original concept art for ‘Captain Marvel’ has come around giving us a hint that we just might not have seen the true face of the Supreme Intelligence. II guess we’ll just have to wait and see!
