What does Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok and Star Wars have in common? If you answered they are owned by Disney you are correct. But, now according to reports from The Hollywood Reporter they might soon have something else in common. T.H.R is reporting that Taika Waititi has been in talks with Disney and Lucasfilm about directing a future Star Wars movie.

Thor 4 Taika Waititi

Taika Waititi and Star Wars

Taika Waititi is no stranger to Star Wars. He was the voice of the bounty hunter droid IG-11 and directed the final episode of the hit Disney+ series The Mandalorian. And now he may get to add a movie to his Star Wars resume. Here is what the Hollywood Reporter had to say about Waititi taking on a Star Wars movie:

Taika Waititi, the filmmaker behind the Oscar-nominated Jojo Rabbit and Thor: Ragnarok, has been approached to develop a Star Wars movie. It is unclear where things stand in those talks. It is also unclear whether the project is separate from the one being developed by Kevin Feige, with whom he closely worked on Ragnarok, or a separate Star Wars project”.

Star Wars needs that next big name

Right now, Waititi is currently directing Next Goal Wins. And he still has Thor: Love and Thunder on the schedule as well. With the news in October that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss from the Game of Thrones, dropped out from directing their own Star Wars Trilogy, you can see why Disney would want to keep Waititi on board for a Star Wars movie. And with the success of Thor: Ragnarok and the popularly of The Mandalorian, Taika Waititi may be the chosen one to get the Star Wars big screen lineup back on course.

We want to hear from you

As of now nothing has been confirmed by Disney so we will keep this in the rumor category. But if is does happen I think Star Wars will be in good hands.

Are you excited about Taika Waititi possibility directing a Star Wars movie? What did you think about his work on The Mandalorian? If he does get a movie what story would you like him to tell?
