Disney’s done it again. This time it had YouTube block a video from YouTubers New Rockstars titled “Star Wars Last Jedi – Is Kylo Secretly Good? (Han Death Scene Theory).” The video was blocked on copyright grounds, but perhaps it hit a little too close to home.
It now seems rather possible that Kylo Ren is not only actually good; he may be a double-agent. Ren did kill his father Han Solo much the same way Snape in the Harry Potter series killed Dumbledore, after all. That was part of a double-agent effort. (If you remember from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Snape did it to keep his identity as a protector of Harry secret. It also gave the more-good side an upper hand.)
I have no problem with Kylo actually being good – being Ben Solo
Think about it. It would make for a great character plot twist in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
But if he was acting as a double-agent when he killed Han, what secret was Ben Solo keeping? Draco Malfoy was watching Snape when Dumbledore confronted Severus. Draco, of course, was connected to the evil Lord Voldemort, who wanted to kill Harry . However, no parallel character to Malfoy was watching Ben when Han made a plea to his son to turn to the light.
The only thing close to it was Supreme Leader Snoke having required Ben to kill Han…. But it’s not like Snoke was watching, as Malfoy was. Ben could have, in theory, made up a story to Snoke after letting Han go.
If Kylo Ren/Ben Solo really is a double-agent, well, perhaps we should have seen this coming. With his flowing jet black hair and dark aura, among other reasons, Kylo already reminds us of Snape.
However it turns out, we can be optimistic that Kylo Ren’s story will continue (conclude?) in an interesting way.
What we do know is that these similarities to Snape are more reasons to believe that Kylo Ren is going to turn out to be good. We have already seen leaks of the general plot of The Rise of Skywalker. There have also been leaks regarding the plot’s climax, in particular. Both offer that director J.J. Abrams, writer Chris Terrio and the team have indeed taken Kylo in this direction.
We’ll find out soon enough. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker opens next Friday, December 20.
