SPOILER ALERT: This article discusses a Rise of Skywalker leak that seems to confirm a MAJOR rumor about the film’s plot. If you don’t want to know, stop reading now and just enjoy watching the latest Star Wars trailer again here:

Still with us? Okay, here we go! A recent Reddit post revealed a Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker leak in the form of a photo of Rey and Kylo Ren. However, it may not actually be Kylo Ren. The photo at the center of the leak depicts Rey and what is more likely Ben Solo having shunned the Dark side after all. How do we know this?

(This is your last spoiler warning….)

Both Rey and Ben Solo are wielding blue lightsabers.

Rise of Skywalker leak appears to confirm Kylo Ren redemption

According to the Reddit user, who claims verification from Jason Ward of Making Star Wars, Ben Solo is wielding the Skywalker lightsaber in the photo. Rey, to the contrary, is wielding another blue lightsaber that belonged to Leia! We know from other sources that Leia at one point contemplated Jedi training but abandoned it for Ben’s sake. If this Rise of Skywalker leak holds true, it’s likely that Leia gave her saber to Rey before passing away in the film. (Let’s hold that emotional discussion for another day).

Now, you’re probably questioning the veracity of this Rise of Skywalker leak. Rightfully so, as there have been a lot of “leaks” that may or may not be true. In this instance, however, we may have confirmation directly from Disney and Lucasfilm. Almost as soon as the Reddit user posted the photo, Reddit was directed to remove it due to a “copyright complaint.” The studio swept in quickly and forcefully to ensure the Episode IX photo did not stay up for long. If the image is copyrighted, that makes it legitimate at least in some way. Whether the scene actually ends up in the film is another matter entirely.

Me? I’m still on the fence. As a fan who saw the original Star Wars in theaters in 1977, Han Solo’s murder is still difficult to accept. Kylo Ren never stood out for me as a true villain along the lines of Vader, Tarkin, Grievous, or Palpatine. I would have no problem if his character arc ended with his death, but this Rise of Skywalker leak seems to suggest otherwise.

Perhaps the film will change my mind. It hits theaters December 20.
