Breaking news in the world of Star Wars: Ewan McGregor has signed to reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi. The likelihood is a Kenobi series for Disney’s streaming service, Disney+. According to Cinelinx, McGregor has signed on at the very least, a contract with LFL. There’s some speculation on whether there will be an announcement at D23 coming up soon. That’s the most likely place to see it.
Ewan McGregor to Return as Obi-Wan Kenobi
McGregor has been public with how much he’d like to return to the character and fans have been clamoring for some sort of return. Obi-Wan getting a show is the best case-scenario for Star Wars fans. It allows him to be more fleshed out and tell a story that fans have wanted for ages.
The better question is what time period in which we’ll Ewan McGregor return as Kenobi. This is one case where I have no idea what they’ll do. Is it going to be a Clone Wars time period? Perhaps after the Jedi purge? My best bet is this time period because we haven’t yet seen it on camera. This is all speculation and Disney could take it to a place we’ve never even heard of.
The Star Wars universe has been hit with a bombshell of a news piece, and there will almost assuredly be more news coming in the following weeks and months. We haven’t seen Ewan McGregor in Star Wars, or Obi-Wan Kenobi, since Revenge of the Sith. Most people were assuming that the project would be an origin movie or something like that. According to the article, it started off like that but turned into a longer form TV show.
