William Shatner
We heard William Shatner’s panel first Friday night. For the first 10-15 minutes he talked about what he had been doing with his life. He talked about his dogs, horses, and loving coming to Kansas City. It started to drag just a bit even though I loved his stories about his Tennessee Walkers. It was when he opened the floor to questions that the Shatner everyone loves and laughs with came out. He laughed and joked with those asking questions, and the tone became much more humorous.
The second question of the night was something to the effect of would you rather ride your horse for the rest of your life, even when you have to go to the bathroom, or tweet every moment of your life to the world, even when you have to go to the bathroom? He gave the questioner a confused look and asked “Is that your question? Are you serious? Are you Insane?” He proceeded to keep roasting her in his typical Shatner fashion and left the audience laughing.
Comicon Celebrities: Shatner Entertains
William Shatner only took about 5-6 questions in total because his answers were long. He would give a humorous answer too start, but then often turned the conversation into a very philosophical discussion. Shatner was then was asked something about his dogs and horses. He gave a funny retort, but then he went into monologue about how his animals teach him about life and love and loss. It was quite fun to listen too. He also told a story of the manly Terry Bradshaw turning into a screeching little girl when some Swedish fermented fish were opened.
We stood in line for his signature first thing Saturday morning. Good thing too as the line was rather long. Shatner was a victim of popularity. He seemed nice and ready to talk, but with his schedule so tight it was posted this was not a meet and greet. Get your stuff signed and move on. I was able to ask a question but was unable to get a clear answer before leaving. One wishes for more time, but still – it’s William F***ing Shatner face-to-face!
Thank you for including a picture of my niece and her adventure on the stage with Joonas Suotamo. This was her very first convention and that was the highlight for her. It was all she could talk about that weekend. I think the best part for me was her photo op with him on Sunday. When she reached the front of the line, he said “My Chewbacca!” and gave her a hug. He was such a great guest and my niece will remember meeting her hero.
