If the trailer earlier this week wasn’t enough of a spoiler for the upcoming Dark Phoenix movie, the reports circling the social media rounds certainly are.

According to Comic Book Movie, this new set of leaks includes every possible plot point in the Simon Kinberg-directed picture, pushing far beyond the previous glaring hints of Mystique’s death from the trailer. If your heart is prepared to learn about some of the events of Dark Phoenix – or if you just can’t wait to get the Fox X-Men films out of the way to make room for the MCU’s take – then keep on reading.

First, we learned that Jessica Chastain’s character is just a generic alien figure without any real origin story, which is somewhat disappointing when compared to fan theories that she was the embodiment of the Phoenix Force itself. Skipping right to the end, Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) will sacrifice herself in the final battle – the train crash site shown in the trailer – in order to defeat her. As a posthumous thank you, Cyborg (Tye Sheridan) reopens the X-Men school and calls it “Jean Grey’s School for Gifted Youngsters” while Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) jetset off to Genosha together.

Of course, this throws the film out of continuity with the flash forward scene in X-Men: Days of Future Past, but since when have we really expected the Fox franchise to keep itself in check? Granted, these tidbits are only rumors but they sound plausible, and this isn’t the first time the movie has experienced massive leakage.

The test screenings from last May also led to several reports, and while several reshoots have been done it still sounds like the new (and improved?) version will remain a retread of Jean’s story in X-Men: The Last Stand. While that makes sense, as Simon Kinberg wrote that screenplay, you’d think he would want to branch out a little more after getting a do-over. As it is, the Fox franchise may be going out with more of a whimper than a bang unless fans flock to the theaters for one final glimpse of this cast and this version of the same old story.
