Today, Roku and Warner Bros. Discovery have entered a deal to bring new channels to The Roku Channel. The new channels will be branded FAST (free ad-supported linear streaming TV) channels. These new channels will arrive in Spring 2023 and feature popular premium content from WB Discovery. A few of the titles headed to the new channel include Westworld, The Bachelor, and Cake Boss. The deal will also include about 2000 hours of on-demand content from various Warner Bros. Discovery brands.
ROKU EXPANDS FAST CHANNELS
For fans of Westworld, this news is certainly welcomed. After the abrupt cancellation and removal of the series from HBO Max, audiences weren’t sure where to find the content. These new FAST channels certainly seem to be where this axed content will land. The addition of Warner Bros. Discovery content continues to build on The Roku Channel’s FAST offerings. Over the last year, Roku has added programming from AMC Networks, NBCUniversal, and the National Hockey League.
Rob Holmes, Vice President of Programming at Roku had this to say about the new deal. “As FAST continues to explode in popularity amongst cord-cutters, we’re seeing content players increasingly shift their focus towards capturing this audience, by bringing some of their best stuff to FAST. The rapid expansion of premium content on FAST is a win for both the viewer and content owner, as well as advertisers looking to reach these audiences through well-known programming. We’re delighted to be one of Warner Bros. Discovery’s inaugural FAST partners, and we look forward to introducing its incredible TV series, films, and entertainment brands to a whole new audience on The Roku Channel.”
