Comedian Leanne Morgan will team with prolific TV showrunner Chuck Lorre for a new Netflix series.

The currently untitled multicam comedy received a 16-episode order from the streamer. While we don’t have casting details outside of Morgan set to play the lead, we do have a logline for the show:

Leanne’s life takes an unexpected turn when her husband of 33 years leaves her for another woman. Starting over when you’re a grandmother and in menopause isn’t exactly what she had in mind, but with the help of her family she will navigate this new chapter with grace, dignity and jello salad.

The series marks Lorre’s latest production for Netflix, following The Kominsky Method. Lorre’s work includes some of the most popular sitcoms in the past couple decades, including The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men

Lorre expressed excitement to bring the upcoming series to life, saying, “If you’ve seen even ten seconds of Leanne Morgan’s stand up then you know what a unique comedic force she is. The theme of starting over is universal, and I cannot think of anyone better to combine heart and comedy than Leanne. I knew I had to work with her, and I’m so excited to bring this story to Netflix.”

In 2023, Netflix released the comedy special Leanne Morgan: I’m Every Woman. Today’s announcement revealed she will also do two more stand-up specials for the streamer, in addition to the scripted sitcom.

Netflix today announced a 16-episode order for an untitled Leanne Morgan scripted, multicam comedy, starring the popular stand-up comedian. The series is created by Morgan, Chuck Lorre and Susan McMartin.

Additionally, Morgan will do two stand-up specials for Netflix.

“I’ve dreamed of this since childhood, and I can’t believe it has come true!” said Morgan. “When I started comedy 25 years ago, my goal was to be a part of a sitcom. It just goes to show you it’s never too late, and dreams do come true. I’m a grandmama from Tennessee, and now I have a TV show with Chuck Lorre and Netflix. What in the world!?”

The as-yet untitled series comes from creators Morgan, Lorre, and Susan McMartin. The trio executive produce the show alongside Judi Marmel.
