Subnautica fans will be quite aware that the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Subnautica 2 was quite a while ago. In fact, that very teaser trailer went live on YouTube all the way back in October 17, 2024. That would mean that it has been over six months since developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment has given us any word on their upcoming sequel to their hit oceanic survival (horror) game. That is six long months since we last had any word on it, and not a peep since then.
Fortunately, the long wait is now finally over. Unknown Worlds Entertainment (UWE) has at last released a dev vlog on YouTube detailing their road to Early Access. If you haven’t already, then you can watch that dev vlog below:
Subnautica 2 Dev Vlog Details Early Access Roadmap and Teases Gameplay Footage
Fans who are hyped about Subnautica 2 will undoubtedly be rejoicing at this as hard as I am. It’s not just that it’s the first official word about the game that we’ve heard from the devs in six months. No, it’s also the fact that we get a fairly comprehensive look at what the gameplay will look like.
The most notable aspect about Subnautica 2‘s gameplay that sharp-eyed viewers will notice is the base-building. As it turns out, UWE weren’t lying when they said that they were overhauling the base-building system. It looks like they’ve altered the system almost entirely. With much more connection points for each building piece, greater freedom as to where to put those pieces, and a much larger amount of building pieces with some highly specific designs such as a “Half-Round Room” and a “Nook”. Just how much freedom they will allow still remains to be seen. However, even this preliminary look is very exciting.
There’s also an overhaul to the basic Scanner tool from the first two Subnautica games. It still provides the basic scanning functions, but now it also seems to double as a basic map tool as well. And with a much more obvious scanning indicator hovering about it as a hologram too. In fact, the scanning scenes also reveals that even basic resources like copper are getting a visual change. It’ll be exciting to see what they do with the various resources.
We even get a look at some more of the new creatures and biomes in Subnautica 2. This includes some kind of bizarre sea creature that rams coral and rock formations that also resides in a lava-filled area as easily as it resides in open ocean. All this and more are building up the hype for the game quite high.
What do you all think? Are you all excited for Subnautica 2‘s impending Early Access later in 2025 now? Tell us your thoughts in the comments section below.
