We just got some breaking news from Nintendo. Today, during Nintendo Direct, it was announced that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be released on June 5. 2025. While this is a great update on the new console, we still don’t know the price or when it will be available for pre-order.

First-Look Trailer Released In January

Nintendo Switch 2

In January, Nintendo released a trailer and a little information on the new system. Here is what we reported on the console then…

As an upgrade, not a full redesign, the Switch 2 features the same basic structure as the original console, with a center screen bracketed by removable Joy-Con controllers. However, the video shared by Nintendo shows the Switch 2 will feature a slightly different look. Updated features appear to include a larger screen, thinner bezels, and an additional button on the right Joy-Con. The new console also ditches the red and blue colored Joy-Cons in favor of black controllers with red and blue rings around the joysticks. Another new feature? A full U-shaped kickstand that pops out to support the console.

Nintendo hasn’t confirmed any specs for the new Switch console. So, you’ll still have to wait a little longer to learn about the Switch 2’s exact dimensions, hardware, battery life, and other such details.

However, this first look did confirm that the Switch 2 will be backwards compatible. So, you should still be able to play all your Switch games on the updated console.
