For fans of Undertale, Deltarune has been the game we’re paying the most attention to. After all, it’s the…sequel? Spinoff? Alternate universe? Honestly, no one but developer and publisher Toby Fox himself is really sure what the game’s relation to Undertale is, and he ain’t talking. All we know is that the game has some relation to Undertale, largely because characters from Undertale appear in it, and that’s it.
Well, that, and the fact that Toby Fox is taking a while to develop Deltarune. Seriously, the game has been in development since 2012, 3 years before Undertale launched. The first chapter didn’t even release for free on Steam until October 2018, and the second and latest chapter released for free on Steam in September 2021. Based on that release schedule, we’re actually overdue for a chapter as of this writing. To be fair to Toby Fox though, he is developing the entire game more or less by himself. No, really, I’m not kidding. He’s the developer, publisher, designer, programmer, writer, and composer; with Temmie Chang as the lead artist. It’s safe to say that he has perfectly valid reasons for taking a while to release each chapter.
Fortunately, the wait is worth it. Toby Fox has just released an official Nintendo Switch 2 announce trailer on YouTube for Deltarune. Chapters 1-4 of the game will launch on June 5, 2025 as a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2 and PS5. Not just that though. The game will also be available on that date for the PC and Mac (via Steam), Nintendo Switch, and PS4. The total price of the game will be $24.99, with any and all upcoming chapters being made available as free updates. Oh, and the soundtrack will be available for $14.99, with Steam buyers getting free updates whenever a new chapter comes up.
Deltarune Ch. 1-4 Launches on June 5, 2025
As an Undertale and Deltarune fan for the past several years now, this announcement from Toby Fox made me scream with joy! I have been waiting for this day for so long! Seriously, if you’ve never played either game, get them on Steam now. The latter has a free demo that consists of the entirety of Ch. 1-2. These are some of the best old school RPG games and bullet hell games in existence, in my opinion. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
What do you all think? Are there any Undertale fans just as excited as me for the official release of Deltarune? Leave your opinions in the comments section below.
