The trailer teases a number of mysteries, villains, and sci-fi shenanigans to come. Sharp-eyed fans will note that Sethu appeared in a guest role last season, but playing an entirely different character. Based on the trailer clips, Belinda also seems more keen to return home than to fly off in the TARDIS. So, the Doctor will have a companion-sized mystery to navigate this season.

The season 2 preview also lets fans catch a glimpse of a variety of episodes to come, including what appears to be a Eurovision song contest parody and the appearance of Mr. Ring-a-Ding, a 2D-animated villain voiced by Alan Cumming

Here’s the official synopsis for season 2 from BBC:

“The Doctor meets Belinda Chandra and begins an epic quest to get her back to Earth. But a mysterious force is stopping their return and the time-traveling TARDIS team must face great dangers, bigger enemies and wider terrors than ever before.”

While plot details remain under wraps, season 2 will feature returning characters Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson), Mel Bush (Bonnie Langford), Kate Stewart (Jemma Redgrave), and the mysterious Mrs. Flood (Anita Dobson). Other guest stars include Caoilfhionn Dunne, Christopher Chung, Evelyn Miller, Ariyon Bakare, Julie Dray, and Jonah Hauer-King.

Doctor Who returns on April 12. Episodes will stream on Disney+ in the US.
