Big news in Austenland! Netflix’s upcoming Pride and Prejudice TV series just announced three key cast members. Emma Corrin, Jack Lowden, and Olivia Colman will all join the series.
Corrin will lead the series as Elizabeth Bennet. Lowden will play her counterpart, Mr. Darcy. Colman will appear as Mrs. Bennet.
Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice comes from Dolly Alderton (Everything I Know About Love). Euros Lyn (Heartstopper) directs the six-part limited series. The series adapts the famous novel by Jane Austen.
“Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story, and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it,” Alderton said in a statement. “Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy – it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life.”
Austen’s novel has been adapted to screen several times before; two of the best-known adaptations include the 1995 BBC version starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle, and the 2005 film starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen.
“Playing Elizabeth Bennet is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said Corrin. “To be able to bring this iconic character to life, alongside Olivia and Jack, with Dolly’s phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honor. I can’t wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again.”
Corrin won an Emmy for her portrayal of Princess Diana in Netflix’s The Crown. Her recent credits include Nosferatu, Deadpool & Wolverine, and Black Mirror.
Lowden received an Emmy nomination for his work on Slow Horses. His other credits include Small Axe, Dunkirk, and The Rings of Power.
Colman received multiple Academy Award nominations, and won an Oscar for The Favourite. She also appeared in the Netflix hit shows The Crown and Heartstopper.
Production on Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice begins in the UK later this year. Meanwhile, check back to THS for more updates.
