Get ready for the world to return to the world of Cher and Clueless. Peacock is making a new series based on the classic movie Clueless. Alicia Silverstone is set to star and executive produce the new series. It’s written by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage of Fake Empire and Jordan Weiss. The 1995-movie’s director Amy Heckerling is on board to executive produce alongside Robert Lawrence.

Silverstone will reprise her role of Cher in the sequel series from CBS Studios in association with Universal Television. CBS TV owns the TV rights to the Paramount film which starred Silverstone, Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy, and Paul Rudd. This isn’t the first time that someone has tried to make a series based on Clueless. Six years ago, CBS Studios tried developing a series based on Dash’s character Dionne, it also went to Peacock for development, but was not picked up for series.

This new project brings on a different creative team and lands at Peacock once again. There was also the 1996 half-hour comedy series Clueless, which was created by Amy Heckerling. That ran for three seasons, one on ABC, and two on UPN, with Rachel Blanchard taking on the role of Cher. The team of Schwartz and Savage have been behind shows like The O.C., Gossip Girl, Nancy Drew, City on Fire, and Looking For Alaska.

Alicia Silverstone reignited interest in the character when she reprised the role in a Super Bowl commercial two years ago.

This is all we know about the series for right now, but we’ll keep you updated as we get more news.
