Death Stranding is quite possibly one of the weirdest video games anyone has ever made. It’s not that surprising though when you look at the creator. Hideo Kojima of Kojima Productions has produced some rather weird games in his past, which includes the entire Metal Gear video game franchise up to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and the Zone of the Enders video game franchise. If you’ve ever played any of those games, then you know what I’m talking about in terms of the weirdness. At the same time, that weirdness is complemented by Kojima’s distinct brand of awesomeness in his games.

Needless to say: whoever is going to direct the upcoming film adaptation of Death Stranding is going to have to live up to Kojima’s brand of awesome weirdness. Fortunately, we now know who that director will be. According to Deadline, Michael Sarnoski will be the director and writer for the live-action adaptation of that video game, with A24, Kojima Productions, and Square Peg producing. Alas, that’s it for now. We don’t even have a release window for you all yet. We will just have to wait for Sarnoski, A24, or Kojima Productions to give us that info at a later date.

Michael Sarnoski to Direct Death Stranding Live-Action Film Adaptation

It’s quite an appropriate choice of director, in my opinion. Michael Sarnoski has previously directed Pig (2021) and A Quiet Place: Day One (2024). Both of which were very weird films in their own right. Pig especially was just one weird film, which you can already tell by Sarnoski’s choice to cast Nicholas Cage as the star. And yet, the film also received universal acclaim from critics for the powerful story and raw emotion. To me, this already tells me that tapping Sarnoski to direct Death Stranding is the right choice.

What do you all think? Do you also think Michael Sarnoski directing Death Stranding is the right choice? Do you think he will b able to live up to Hideo Kojima? Does this make you want to watch that upcoming live-action film when it finally comes out? Give us your thoughts below in the comments section.
