Big news for those looking for a more immersive movie experience. AMC, the largest theatrical exhibitor worldwide, just announced a new deal with CJ 4DPLEX. This will see 65 new ScreenX and 4DX auditoriums opening worldwide.

ScreenX uses multi-projection technology to create an immersive, 270-degree panoramic viewing experience. In other words, the unique cinema format extends select scenes of films beyond the typical front-facing screen and onto the walls on either side of the screen.

4DX creates a multisensory cinematic experience, using synchronized vibration, light and wind effects, scents, moving seats, and other special effects to enhance the visuals on screen.

“This partnership with CJ 4DPLEX to bring groundbreaking cinematic experiences SCREENX and 4DX to AMC moviegoers marks another major step forward in our commitment to delivering the most immersive, cutting-edge experiences to our millions of guests worldwide,” said Adam Aron, Chairman and CEO of AMC Entertainment. “As the entertainment landscape evolves, AMC continues to lead the industry by embracing innovative technologies and premium experiences that redefine what it means to enjoy a movie.”

The current agreement between AMC and CJ 4DPLEX will bring 25 ScreenX locations and 40 4DX auditoriums across the US and Europe. The first few ScreenX openings will occur in time for summer blockbuster season, with the first 4DX theaters arriving this fall. AMC plans to complete the full roll out by 2027.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to be in business with the largest exhibitor in the world with one of the largest deals in the history of our company,” said Jun Bang, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX. “This deal underscores the overwhelming growing popularity of both of our formats globally and serves as a significant milestone as the cinema industry continues to innovate and bring a differentiated entertainment product to moviegoers.”

Upcoming titles planning releases on ScreenX and 4DX include A Minecraft Movie, Marvel’s Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, the John Wick spinoff Ballerina, the live-action How To Train Your Dragon, and Formula One racing pic F1, among others.
