Big news for Agatha All Along fans out of PaleyFest. No, it’s not a confirmation of season 2. (Sorry.) But it is a confirmation of a significant fan theory.

At PaleyFest LA, series stars Kathryn Hahn, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, and Debra Jo Rupp joined showrunner Jac Schaeffer for a special screening and Q&A at the Dolby Theatre. When asked if they had any favorite fan theories about the show, Zamata volunteered her favorite theory that Aubrey Plaza’s Rio Vidal was the other parent of Agatha Harkness’ son, Nicky.

Though Agatha All Along doesn’t explicitly make a claim about Nicky’s parentage, many fans believed Rio to be the boy’s “father,” based on both her canon romantic relationship with Agatha and actor Abel Lysenko’s resemblance to Plaza.

When Zamata offered up the fan theory during the panel, Schaeffer affirmed that while they kept the specifics of Nicky’s conception vague in the show, she and the casting department very much also noted the resemblance.

“[Agatha and Rio’s relationship] was something that was important to the writers and to me,” Schaeffer said. “And it was really lovely that it was something that the fans said… and that we can confirm!”

So, there you have it. Rio Vidal, you ARE the father!

Ok, But What About Season 2?!

Though many fans hoped PaleyFest would bring a confirmation that more Agatha All Along was on the way, Schaeffer & co. remained mum on the subject. Still, while no official green light was announced, the panel did offer a few glimmers of hope for a continuation.

First, the introduction to the PaleyFest event specifically referred to the panel as “Agatha All Along season 1”. Schaeffer also made several comments during the panel about the MCU’s potential for non-linear stories, and that a character like Agatha has a lot of unexplored history. Combined with Marvel Television’s Brad Winderbaum’s recent comments about “getting the right idea for season 2”, it seems like fans may get to see more Agatha Harkness in some capacity, even if it wouldn’t be as a direct follow-up to season 1 of Agatha All Along

So, what do you think about this fan theory confirmation and the potential for a second season? Let us know in the comments below if you’re casting a spell for more Agatha. (I know I am!)
