Forty years later and still not skipping detention, The Breakfast Club reunited at C2E2 to a packed and nostalgic crowd. In a full-circle moment, the cast reunited in Chicago, where their cinematic Saturday detention first came to life. All members of the club were on-hand, including Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Judd Nelson, and Ally Sheedy. The panel was moderated by Josh Horowitz in celebration of the films 40th anniversary. Keep reading for highlights from the panel, and if you’d like to watch the full panel, you can find it  hereIn addition to the panel, all cast members were available for autographs and photo-ops with fans all weekend long.

The Breakfast Club Panel Highlights

During the panel, the club reminisced on collaborating with legendary director, John Hughes, and shared behind the scenes tidbits including how they improvised the scene where they get high. There was also a fun story about how Hughes took Ringwald shopping for a new wardrobe for her character. The Breakfast Club cast all discussed the lasting impact the film has had personally and culturally

  • Emilio on why it took so long to reunite with the cast, “I skipped all my high school reunions, so this was something that finally felt like I needed to do, just for myself. But this one felt special because it’s here in Chicago where we made the film, it’s the 40th anniversary…and I just love all of them [cast] so it just made sense.”
  • Judd on what made John Hughes unique, “Hughes meant it when he said to us to participate in the process of making this movie. He liked us, I didn’t know how rare it was going to be for a director to like actors… He’s the first writer who could write a character who was young without them being less.
  • Molly on watching the film with her kids “It changed my parenting, watching with her…but how it spoke to her, which character she identified with and why, opened up this incredible conversation. If you would have told me when I was 16 years old, one day I would be watching that movie with my 10-year-old and it changed the way that I parent…it’s just mind blowing.”
  • Emilio on the film’s legacy, “This is one of those movies that stands the test of time…it’s a cross generational film…we were lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time.”
