The Legend of Zelda is coming to theaters in 2027. The Hollywood Reporter’s latest piece explains that Sony and Nintendo are targeting a March 26, 2027 release date. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes director Wes Ball has been tabbed to handle this project for the veteran video game brand. 

Plot details or casting information is not available at this time. The Legend of Zelda is one of Nintendo’s most popular franchises. Universal and the video game studio’s success with The Super Mario Bros. Movie likely helped speed a lot of this up. Sony producer Avi Arad’s Arad Productions Inc. will be playing a big hand in bringing The Legend of Zelda to life on the big screen.

Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda Movie Slated For 2027

Nintendo’s moves into the world of movies have produced a big hit recently with The Super Mario Bros. Movie. $1 billion at the box office will have you re-evaluating strategy for sure. In 2023, Nintendo shocked everyone when they announced The Legend of Zelda and beloved developer Shigeru Miyamoto gave everyone an update.

“This is Miyamoto. I have been working on the live-action film of ‘The Legend of Zelda’ for many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega hit films,” Miyamoto previously typed. “I have asked Avi-san to produce this film with me, and we have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production. It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it.”
