A Nice Indian Boy is an upcoming romantic comedy directed by Roshan Sethi, co-creator of The Resident, and based on Madhuri Shekar’s acclaimed play. The story follows Naveen Gavaskar. Naveen, a reserved and gentle doctor, invites his fiancé, Jay Kurundkar, to meet his traditional Indian family. Jay, a white man adopted by Indian parents, faces the challenge of navigating cultural expectations and seeking acceptance from Naveen’s family as they prepare for their wedding.
Having seen the film, it quickly became my second favorite of the year. I had the incredible opportunity to speak with Director Roshan Sethi and lead actor Karan Soni about the story’s impact and what makes it truly special.

The film stars Karan Soni (Deadpool) as Naveen and Jonathan Groff (Frozen) as Jay. Sunita Mani (GLOW) plays Naveen’s sister, Arundhathi, while Zarna Garg and Harish Patel portray his parents, Megha and Archit, respectively. The screenplay was adapted by Eric Randall, with production by Justin Baldoni, Charlie McSpadden, and Renee Witt.
A Nice Indian Boy made its world premiere at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival on March 12, 2024. It has also been showcased at various film festivals.
