BE@RBRICK hits AppleTV+ on March 21 and the executive producer for the series sat down with That Hashtag Show to preview the series. Meghan McCarthy is no stranger to the world of animation with her work on My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and Centaurworld. The story of BE@RBRICK centers on Jasmine Finch and her literal band of talented friends.

The Brushstrokes are trying to make it big and inspire the town of Vinylville while they’re at it. Because defying expectations is something we can all get behind. During our conversation, McCarthy discussed the unique world of BE@RBRICK that Jasmine and her friends inhabit and how younger viewers are bound to find it relatable.

”In this world, after high school, you’re painted to be whatever you’re going to be when you grow up. And, you don’t have a choice in the matter,” McCarthy explained. “You’re usually painted to be something your parents were. But Jasmine desperately wants to be a singer/songwriter. That’s never going to happen in this world. So, with some friends with a similar dream, she realized that if this world’s going to change, they’re going to change it.”

BE@RBRICK And Encouraging Viewers To Stand Out

BE@RBRICK’s key band.

BE@RBRICK is a story about standing out, even when the world might not expect you to. McCarthy talked about empowering young viewers through those rocking songs. Timbaland is aboard the project to help mold the sound of Vinylville and The Brushstrokes. Having a musical genius aboard definitely helps matters.

“Dreamworks had a relationship with him prior to this show and when I was developing it came and said, ‘Hey, what about Timbaland?’ I was amazed and shocked and in awe,” the showrunner admitted. “It’s incredible. It’s important that this band felt like they were talented and deserved to have their music out there. The world would be missing out if they didn’t get to do that.”

“To bring in someone who has their finger on the pulse. Someone who has, through the generations, created some of the most impactful, biggest hits ever. Have them oversee things. You’re going to have something that lives outside the show. Something that you’re going to want to add to your Apple playlist,” McCarthy continued.
