The classic Stephen King novel, Carrie, is getting a new adaptation from Mike Flanagan at Prime Video. They’ve officially greenlit an eight-episode adaptation of the 1974 novel. Amazon MGM Studios will produce the show. Flanagan serves as writer and showrunner in addition to directing select episodes. This is the fourth time he’ll adapt Stephen King including Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, and the upcoming The Life Of Chuck.

Misfit high schooler Carrie White has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. After her father’s sudden and untimely death, Carrie finds herself contending with the alien landscape of public High School, a bullying scandal that shatters her community, and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.

Summer H. Howell is in negotiations to star as Carrie and Siena Agudong has been cast as Sue Snell.

Here’s what Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios had to say about the project.

“Carrie is an iconic story that has withstood the test of time with continued cultural relevance. With Mike Flanagan at the helm and the accomplished team assembled including executive producer Trevor Macy this provocative series is sure to captivate our global customers.”

This will also be the fourth time Carrie has been adapted after the 1976 classic from Brian De Palma, there was two others, one in 2002 from David Carson, and the remake in 2013 from Kimberly Peirce.
