VR Troopers is a show that has had a fascinating history. It basically started life on September 3, 1994 as a knockoff Power Rangers show that tried to capitalize both on the success of Power Rangers and on the fascination people had with VR technology in the ’90s. You know, that Tron aesthetic and all. Alas, as you can tell by the virtual lack of anyone familiar with this series, it was not a success. It basically died at two seasons for a total of 92 episodes on February 21, 1996; coinciding with Saban Entertainment running out of the Japanese stock footage they had used to make the show. This also meant the deaths of the tie-in comic books and video games as a result.
However, that turns out to not be the end of VR Troopers as a media franchise. In fact, Hasbro bought the rights for them in 2018, and officially made this Power Rangers knockoff part of Power Rangers canon.
All of which explains why BOOM! Studios is announcing a brand new VR Troopers comic book series here in the present day. This new comic will feature Mairghread Scott as the writer, with Sebastián Piriz as the artist. Both of who are veterans of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, giving this knockoff comics that Power Rangers flair. This comic book series will consist of a total of six chapters, with VR TROOPERS #1 becoming available in comic book stores sometime in June 2025. You can preorder it right now from your local comic book shop. You can also purchase digital copies from content providers, including Kindle, iBooks, and Google Play.
That’s not all though. VR TROOPERS #1 will also feature main cover art by Taurin Clarke (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), with variants by James Stokoe (Godzilla), Christian Ward (Invisible Kingdom), and more. You can check out the full cover list below:
