My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is a very interesting look at a different side of My Hero Academia. The original manga by writer Hideyuki Furuhashi and artist Betten Court is a spinoff and prequel to Kohei Horikoshi’s story. It takes place about five years prior to the main story, so it gives us a good look at the background and setting of that main story. Not only that, but it’s also a darker look at that main story since it takes place in an era when the Hero system wasn’t quite as professional or as numerous as it is in the story’s present day. It creates a feeling more like Gotham City than anything else, and it’s why so many fans are eager to see the anime adaptation of this spinoff / prequel.

Fortunately, Crunchyroll is here to help out with that. They’re proud to announce the upcoming anime adaptation of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes with a whole bunch of new content, including a new trailer that includes the new opening theme song “Kekka Orai” by Kocchi no Kento, and a brand new key art for the anime. All of which reveals that the anime will make its debut on Monday, April 7, 2025. As you might guess, you can watch this spinoff only on Crunchyroll. As there’s no page for it yet, you can watch the main story on Crunchyroll as well, or on Netflix or Hulu.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Shows Off Trailer with Debut Date

Does this remind anyone of Batman? Anyone?

Honestly, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes would be a great spinoff / prequel to the main anime. It basically injects a load of dark superhero action to serve as a background for the relatively peaceful modern day…at least before the timeskip arc, but that’s another story for later. For now, let’s just say that fans of the Batman and the Punisher comics might find this spinoff to be most interesting.
