Welcome back for another weekend of What We’re Watching here on That Hashtag Show. The next couple of days are filled with a ton of fun shows and movies to help you relax with family and friends. Without further ado, let’s get into what we’re watching for the weekend of April 4, 2025!
Freaky Tales – Now In Theaters
This one has had a lot of hype attached to it. Lionsgate unleashes Captain Marvel directors Ryan Fleck and Anna Bolden onto 1987 Oakland, California. The results are devastatingly funny and vibrant. Freaky Tales’ cast listing might lure you into the theater alone. Pedro Pascal, Ben Mendelsohn, Normani, Too Short and more convene for a unique theater experience that you’ll see on some year-end lists.
A Minecraft Movie – Now in Theaters

A global phenomenon finally has it’s own theatrical debut. Long before Fortnite began to dominate the imaginations of young players everywhere, there was humble Minecraft. This new movie is decidedly for the younger set. But, we’re positive that the smaller viewers and those young at heart will find a pleasant 2 hours at the cinema with the video game adaptation. Jeff Ewing was a little more discerning in his review, but if the word Ender means something to you, you’ll probably have a good time.
Devil May Cry – Streaming on Netflix
Y2K is all the rage and that means that everything old is new again. Over on Netflix, the PlayStation action shooter serves as the jumping off point for an anime. Johnny Young Bosch stars as the bold Demon hunter Dante. He’s charming, brash and kicks a lot of butt. Adi Shankar is no stranger to spectacle and he turns the knob up to 11 for Devil May Cry. I’ll ask you this, does the thought of Rollin by Limp Bizkit or a new Evanescence intrigue you? Yeah? Go watch Devil May Cry.
Hell of a Summer – In Theaters
NEON said, “The Summer starts when we say so!” Enter, Hell of a Summer. The horror flick tumbles from the mind of Billy Bryk and Finn Wolfhard. That’s right, the Stranger Things star helped co-write and direct this slasher. Poor Fred Hechinger plays a camp counselor in over his head. Things go from bad to worse when a killer begins to terrorize these teens and their caretaker. Hell of a Summer is a real throwback effort in every way.
Love on the Spectrum – Streaming on Netflix
You know we have to include a bit of reality TV in this space. But, I’m happy to report this entry might be one of the only pieces from the genre that won’t have you sniping at the contestants. Instead, Love on the Spectrum sees people trying to find a connection. But, unlike so many reality shows, the choices feel a bit more genuine and measured. Might make you feel okay about the world!
The White Lotus – Streaming on Max

It’s all been leading to this. An entire season’s worth of mysteries comes to a head in a frenzied final entry. Season 3 has been wild. (I mean, it’s The White Lotus, is there any other way for this to go?) Questions about monkeys will be answered. As we say goodbye to another spring with “the Walton Goggins power hour”, take hope in the fact that there will be more of White Lotus. The same can’t be said of The Righteous Gemstones after this season!
Nice Indian Boy – In Theaters Now
There’s been a lot of digital ink spilled about the death of the romantic comedy as a genre. Those claims have been a little bit inflated. Movies like A Nice Indian Boy help show that not only is there a lot of mileage in this underused genre, but these movies can really prove to be malleable. Roshan Sethi’s latest sees Karan Soni taking his boyfriend, played by Jonathan Groff to meet his folks. It’s heartwarming and undoubtedly funny. That Hashtag Show’s Sarah Carey gave this one high marks so don’t miss out.
Y2K – Streaming on Max
This little horror movie never really got a fair shake in theaters. But, with a weekend premiere on Max, expect more people to be talking about it. Saturday Night Live alumnus Kyle Mooney embarks on a journey to the distant past of 1999 and finds a charming horror movie about technology and its ills. Rachel Zegler brings it here too. In my opinion, worth a click on vibes alone!
The Bondsman – Streaming on Prime Video
Kevin Bacon is back in a strange little movie. It’s a thriller about a bounty hunter summoned back to the land of the living. Now, the person contracting his job is literally the Devil. (I’ll admit, I laughed at Satan using old tech to communicate with Bacon’s character. Maybe the 00s is the theme of today’s recommendations?) Hub Halloran has a job to do and he’s going to sing country tunes while he’s knocking down demons. You’re welcome.
