John Wick is getting an animated series! CinemaCon is rolling right now in Las Vegas, and That Hashtag Show is in the building. Lionsgate’s presentation revealed that Chad Stahelski is helping develop a John Wick animated movie. Keanu Reeves returns in the iconic role. Shannon Tindle is aboard the project as a director and fans are pumped!

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson dropped the news during the presentation for theater owners. John Wick fans can expect a “mature” animated film that carries over the same energy as the live-action offerings. The approach for this one is inspired.

The new John Wick animated film will reportedly feature flashbacks to the title character before the first movie. If you’ve ever wondered how the “Impossible Task” was accomplished, the new movie aims to answer that question. So much backstory is on the table.

John Wick Is Getting An Animated Series From Lionsgate

Stahelski has been there for a ton of the John Wick franchise. He’s stoked to help Lionsgate explore this new chapter. “I’ve always been fascinated with anime. It has always been a huge influence on me, especially with the John Wick series,” Stahelski wrote. “To have the opportunity to develop a John Wick anime seems to be the perfect progression for the John Wick world. I feel John Wick is the perfect property for this medium— anime holds the potential to expand our world, our characters, and our action in ways unimaginable before.”

Lionsgate chair Adam Fogelson also weighed in. “In both animation and the world of John Wick, the possibilities are endless,” Fogelson said. “And there is no John Wick story fans are clamoring for more than the Impossible Task. Shannon’s take on that story is an incredible one, and we are beyond excited to see what John Wick can do in animation.”
