A well-liked character from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels is reportedly set to join a third Star Wars show. According to writer Daniel Richtman, Rex, commonly known as “Captain Rex,” is scheduled to be in the second season of The Mandalorian.
If this is true, the clone would be the fourth character from The Clone Wars to join the live-action Mandalorian.
As Captain Rex, the character was a trustworthy clone trooper who worked with Anakin Skywalker throughout The Clone Wars. He was promoted from captain to commander. That’s just before he went with Bo-Katan and Ahsoka Tano in The Clone Wars for the Siege of Mandalore. There, Maul could be found as the ruler of Mandalore.
You wonder if The Mandalorian showrunner Jon Favreau is going to take the audience back to Mandalore, especially with the Darksaber at play in the show.
The Darksaber originated on the planet.
Boba Fett will also be in The Mandalorian after being in The Clone Wars. However, he will be an adult after being a child in the latter-mentioned show. Bo-Katan, Ahsoka and Boba will be played by Katee Sackhoff, Rosario Dawson and Temuera Morrison, respectively.
You also wonder how many more characters from The Clone Wars should be part of The Mandalorian.
Don’t get me wrong – at this point, I like it; The Clone Wars was good enough that I want to see characters from it.
However, The Mandalorian may feel more like The Clone Wars.
But it’s not The Clone Wars.
At this point, The Mandalorian may be saturated with too much of something else.
Dee Bradley Baker, who voices Rex, almost certainly won’t play the character as Sackhoff is with Bo-Katan. Not even Ashley Eckstein is playing Ahsoka. And with Rex looking exactly like Boba Fett because they are clones from the same template (Jango Fett), it’s more likely that Morrison would play him. (Besides being planned to play Boba, Morrison played Jango.)
The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito and Gina Carano. Season 1 can be seen on Disney+. Season 2 is slated to start in October.
