Matt Reeves upcoming film, The Batman, is the latest casualty to delays. Unlike some of the other films that we’ve reported on, this one is a production delay. The Batman is unable to finish it’s scheduled production due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Originally scheduled for a June 2021 release, now it’ll be released in October of 2021.
A target date of May was brought up when the production was first delayed. That target looks like it won’t be met either. With most of Hollywood on shutdown due to the virus’s spread, we’ll have to see if this date holds as well. At the time of reporting by ScreenRant, they said that the film is only about 25% finished. That’s a very small amount. Which means that we might not be seeing the film for a while, depending on how long this situation takes. Warner Bros. was their original source for the news.
After the smash hit success of Joker, Batman fans were clamoring for more realistic, gritty, portrayals of the classic character. The Batman is being directed by Matt Reeves. The title character is played by Robert Pattinson. A casting choice that was panned when it was announced, but people seem to have warmed up to his portrayal.
Like with Marvel, this could mean a reshuffling of the slate for the entire DC Universe. We don’t know if this film will be a separate story like Joker, or if it’ll connect back to the overall DC universe like with Justice League. Marvel recently had to push back Black Widow, and that reshuffled their entire slate. We’ll keep you updated on this developing story as the news on it breaks.
