Kelly Marie Tran has had a bumpy road throughout her Star Wars career. Tran who played the character Rose Tico, made her first movie appearance in Rain Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Despite being the first actress of color to have a leading role in the franchise, she was subjected to sexist and hate related harassment from toxic fans. But after a lot of support from her fans and receiving a HUGE welcome at Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, many people were excited to see what was next for Rose in The Rise of Skywalker. That was until they saw her screen time, or the lack thereof in the movie.

Kelly Marie Tran comments on her lack of screen time.

During the Oscars, MTV News talked with Kelly Marie Tran on this subject and her answer may have surprised a few.

“Last Jedi was my first movie, you know? So, I think I’m finally starting to realize that when you’re in something of that caliber, there’s so many people working to make something out of love, and no matter what you do there’s always going to be people that aren’t happy with that. I think that the best lesson I’ve learned, is to have fun and be present in the moment. So, I’m really grateful that I got to be a part of it.”

Was she satisfied on Rose’s role in the movie?

Kelly Marie Tran seemed to take it well when asked if she was satisfied with how her role was used in the movie. Tran did not confirm or deny any disappointment, but instead gave this answer:

“I mean, I think that I’m really just amazed at the way J.J. was able to sort of wrap up all these incredible stories. There were so many characters, you know? At the end of the day, I got to be part of something bigger than me and that’s special.”
