Back in March of last year That Hashtag Show was the exclusive first to break some Mortal Kombat news for you. That, of course, provided you with character breakdowns for the new, live-action Mortal Kombat movie. Unfortunately that film won’t arrive until 2021. If you need a cinematic MK fix in the meantime, however, we’ve got some good news for you. Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge arrives on digital and Blu-ray this spring!
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment gives us “no holds-barred animated action” with the latest feature based on one of the most popular video games in history. The film features a star-studded voice cast, including Joel McHale (Community) as Johnny Cage and Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter) as Sonya Blade. Sharp-eared Star Wars will also recognize the voice of Steve Blum, notable for his portrayal of Ghost crew member Zeb on Star Wars Rebels. He’ll portray Sub-Zero.
Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge arrives in April
Based on the worldwide hit game created by Ed Boon & John Tobias, Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge spotlights the once-in-a-generation tournament between the champions of Outworld and Earthrealm – a competition that will ultimately determine the fate of Earth and all its citizens. Lord Raiden, protector of Earthrealm, must gather the greatest fighters of his realm to defend it from the evil Shang Tsung in the battle to end all battles – Mortal Kombat!”
The film will be available beginning April 12, 2020 in digital format. Likewise, 4kUltra HD Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pak, and DVD offerings will follow on April 28th.
Special features will include the following and more:
- From Epic Game to Extreme Animation – Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon and the filmmakers reveal the creative process behind adapting the best-selling game to an all-new animated film.
- The Weapons, Wardrobe and World of Mortal Kombat Legends – The artists reveal the design challenges of animating the world of Mortal Kombat, from authentic armor to wildly imaginative weapons and fantasy settings.
- Mortal Kombatants – Dive deep inside the cast of characters to reveal their unique abilities, signature moves and backstories.
- Filmmaker Commentary – Producer Rick Morales and screenwriter Jeremy Adams sit down for an insightful audio commentary that reveals the process of creating a compelling animated film based on one of today’s most popular fighting games.
Don’t get squeamish on us, however. Not surprisingly, Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge will be rated R. Imagine that: “strong bloody violence throughout.”
