While there have been murmurs of a live-action Ms. Marvel adaptation for some time, D23 finally turned the talk into truth. During the Disney Plus Showcase panel on August 23rd, Kamala Khan was confirmed for the streaming showcase.

That’s not even the best part. Apparently, Ms. Marvel will not be confined to simply streaming television. She’ll embiggen herself onto the big screen, crossing over into as un-yet-specified MCU film.

Kevin Feige gave no timeframe, but he did announce the series would come after Hawkeye. Based on the Disney+ order of events, that puts Ms. Marvel’s arrival between late 2021 or early 2022.

The Mindy Kaling Connection

When Mindy Kaling spoke of participating in a Ms. Marvel series earlier this year, we had no idea one of her peers would be signed onto it. Bisha K. Ali, a staff writer for Kaling’s Four Weddings and a Funeral, appears to the the showrunner for the upcoming Kamala show. At least according to comic writer G. Willow Wilson‘s tweet:

Whether or not that means Mindy Kaling herself will be involved has yet to be seen. Given her words about representation for Pakistani-Americans onscreen, hopefully Ali also plans to be specific in the casting and presentation of the series.
