Lionsgate has done some shuffling around of their theatrical schedule in the horror department. Saw XI saw reports that the film was outright canceled last week and now it appears that even if it’s not fully canceled, it won’t be released this September. Instead, The Strangers – Chapter 2 will take over its slot on September 26th, 2025.
The Strangers – Chapter 2 is the second part in a trilogy for the horror franchise. The first part was released last year and grossed $35 million at the box office in the US. Here’s what series producers Mark Canton and Courtney Solomon had to say about the films in a statement.
“Like Strangers fans everywhere, we’re thrilled for Chapter 2 — it’s the kind of film that’ll have audiences watching through their fingers, Bringing it to theaters this Halloween season is perfect, and we can’t wait for everyone to see where the story goes next.”
Lionsgate took on a gamble, even with the smaller price tag of the trilogy in comparison to other movies releasing this year. The first Strangers film is a horror classic, so the idea of expanding upon that with looks into what made The Strangers what they are, is another gamble. Horror villains are sometimes the scariest when we don’t know a thing about them. Hell, the entire premise of The Strangers is scary because of their reasoning.
“You were home.”
Fans of the original have latched onto these characters between that film and the sequel The Strangers: Prey At Night. There’s mythology surrounding them and the masks they pick. Renny Harlin’s trilogy is looking to expand on that. The first film The Strangers: Chapter One was basically a bit of a retread of the first film minus the awkward marriage proposals. It starred Madelaine Petsch, Froy Gutierrez, and Ryan Bown. This second film still stars Petsch and also includes Gabriel Basso and Ema Horvath. The synopsis is about as simple and unspecific as it comes.
So, what did you think of the newest The Strangers movie? Are you excited for the second chapter?
