The Saw series laid dormant for quite a while until the triumphant return of Saw X in 2023. The runaway success of that film led to an eleventh film getting greenlit for a 2024 release almost immediately. Like most movies, there were issues, which meant a delay to 2025. Anything to make the best movie, right? Well, a new report from our friends at Bloody Disgusting has certainly thrown a wrench into those plans.
Saw XI has been confirmed to be canceled or at least at death’s door by an anonymous source and then corroborated by our friends at One Take News. Here’s what Bloody Disgusting’s source had to say.
“It’s totally dead,” the source tells us. “It’s 100% over. Almost a year now.”
Kevin Greutert was supposed to come back to direct Saw XI with writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan. The stars Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith, and Costas Mandylor were also set to return for the eleventh film. Here’s what their source continued with.
“Everything went sideways in January 2024 … the producers started fighting.” While one producer attempted to “plow forward” with the film, the other “put up roadblocks,” stifling Saw XI’s production.
What Does This Mean For Saw Going Forward?

That sure sounds like an issue that has killed previous horror series in the past. Think about the disagreements between rights holders that stifled Friday the 13th for so many years. Unless the series gets sold to a new studio, it’ll likely remain dormant until whatever disagreements can be hammered out. It’s a problem in our industry that people behind the scenes that might not even be part of the creative team are stifling the actual filmmaking process.
Whatever happens, we’ll still have Saw X as a fitting end for this version of the series and its storylines.
