Keanu Reeves created the comic book BRZRKR and took it all the way to the top of the comic book charts. Then Netflix optioned the comic for a movie with Reeves in the starring role. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, they’re confirming that Fast & Furious director Justin Lin has signed on to direct the film.
Reeves is producing the gritty action film alongside Stephen Christy for Boom! Studios, Stephen Hamel of Company Films, and Ross Richie. Lin will also produce the film. It reunites Lin and Reeves, who teamed up to produce the independent film Last Days, which recently premiered.
Mattson Tomlin wrote the script for BRZRKR which has this logline.
“A brutally epic saga about an immortal warrior’s 80,000 year fight through the ages. The man known only as ‘B’ is half-mortal and half-god, cursed and compelled to violence, even at the sacrifice of his sanity. But after wandering the earth for centuries, B may have finally found a refuge — working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, B will be granted the one thing he desires — the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence … and how to end it.”
Reeves created the concept for Boom! Studios with artist Ron Garney and author Matt Kindt. The first issue is one of the best selling comic issues of the last decade with over 600,000 copies and the series has sold over 3.5 million worldwide.
Netflix also has an anime spinoff in development with Tomlin also writing that.
