Forever has a brand-new first look in new images from Netflix. The streamer dropped fresh images for the modern day Judy Blume adaptation. Mara Brock Akil’s Forever is a Black romance set in Los Angeles. Netflix premieres Forever on May 8. Check out what the showrunner had to say to TUDUM down below. Take a look at our main characters as well.
“I’ve always credited Judy Blume as part of the seasoning of my voice as a writer,” Brock said. “She was one of the first writers I read that dared to be honest about the human condition in young people and you can see traces of her writing style within my own.”

Brock Akil continues, “What better metaphor for this love story than what LA represents, for not only me, but a lot of people. LA is a place for dreamers, and chasing dreams is no different than chasing love, it comes with the highs, the lows, the epic and the intimate.”
Blume’s work has been a focus for Netflix for a while. Back in 2022, the company was ecstatic about getting the chance to adapt this beloved story. Renate Radford, Netflix’s vice president of overall deals wrote, “Mara’s creative and authentic storytelling allows us to present a fresh take on an iconic coming-of-age love story. We look forward to bringing the series to a global audience.”
