James Bond ended his most recent cinematic adventure with No Time to Die back in 2021. It was the 25th movie in the spy action series, and it was a movie that also ended Daniel Craig’s role as the titular spy action star, making it the last time we will ever see him working for MI6 (or the CIA, in this case). That film also marked the final one to feature Eon Productions as the producers, since Amazon MGM bought out the franchise from them just recently on February 20, 2025. And alas, it might also be the last time we will see the spy in any cinematic capacity at all.
Variety has just released a fascinating story about Barbara Broccoli and her ceding creative control of the James Bond franchise to Amazon MGM. While Broccoli has apparently ceded full creative control to Amazon, Amazon still hasn’t quite closed the deal yet. They still need to negotiate with Michael G. Wilson (the half-brother of Barbara Broccoli) to fully close that deal. Until Amazon does that, they can’t really hire anyone for a James Bond anything.
However, according to sources familiar with Amazon and what they want to do with the franchise, Amazon is definitely prioritizing making a feature film-length film as their next James Bond project. They want a producer “in the vein of David Heyman” in order to bring a “cohesive vision” to the franchise, much as Heyman did with the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films. That’s not to say that they’re looking for Heyman specifically, but it might very well turn out to be the case here.
James Bond Film Still a Very Long Time in the Making
Alas, we get almost zero specifics on this James Bond film that Amazon wants to make. The only specific potential cast named is…Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos?! Yeah, former Amazon Studios chief Roy Price gives an aside that “Jeff [Bezos] should have a cameo as the supervillain’s IT guy trying endlessly to get the printer hooked up to the Wi-Fi”. Granted, it’s entirely possible that throwaway line is a joke. However, it might also turn out to be the truth. We will just have to see when Amazon finally gets around to releasing details of their new addition to the James Bond franchise.
What do you all think? Who do you think should play James Bond next? Does the thought of Jeff Bezos having a cameo in this upcoming film fill you with disgust or hilarity? Share your thoughts with us below in the comments section.
