The choice of who the upcoming DCU will pick as its sole Batman has been a hotly contested debate amongst fans. Some want people like Jenson Ackles or Alan Ritchson, others want Robert Pattinson. Pattinson’s work in The Batman was fantastic and he turned plenty of people’s opinions. However, James Gunn and Peter Safran are where the buck stops for any sort of DC decision-making.

The Batman and its universe of projects are part of what’s called Elseworld stories. Those mean that they’re not part of the interconnected world of the mainline DC Universe that’s coming with Superman later this year. That doesn’t stop people from fan-casting Pattinson as the main Caped Crusader. In a new expose all about DC and their upcoming films from our friends at Screen Rant, Gunn confirmed that Pattinson would not be the DCU’s main Batman. Here’s what they said in their piece.

“Gunn bluntly confirmed that it was not the plan to have Pattinson be the DCU’s Batman. Safran then backed this up, insisting that the duo loves his work, but that another DCU Batman is imperative.”

Batman Comes To The DCU In The Brave And The Bold

The Brave and the Bold is the next Batman movie coming for the mainline DCU. Matt Reeves is also working on The Batman – Part 2 for now. Also in that piece was a section about the script for The Batman – Part 2 not being ready. That doesn’t bode well for the film hitting theaters anytime soon. Gunn and Safran did reveal that what they’ve read from the script has been very encouraging though. So let Matt Reeves cook, everyone, give the man some time.

The Batman – Part 2 is slated for theaters in 2027.

But this also asks the question: who will play Batman in the DCU? We’ll have to figure that out when we get more news about The Brave and the Bold.
