Marvel Television is pausing development on three projects: Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror Inc.. The news comes from Deadline, but also adds in the wrinkle that the three projects were never officially greenlit. The three series could go back into development at some point, but not now. The studio is shifting priorities at the moment.
This comes on the heels of a movement in content production for Marvel Studios that comes after the glut of content they produced between 2020-2024. They approached the TV side of things in the same way as their movie slate and it clearly didn’t work. After shows that were massively successful through the pandemic like WandaVision and Loki, they’ve had less successful shows in recent times. The development process is now more selective for what gets made and how they present their content.
They now choose showrunners to bring in and oversee each show. Basically, they’re doing TV like everyone else does. Instead of a group of producers overseeing things, each show has its own head honcho.

The biggest and most rumor-filled of these projects was Nova. Richard Rider is one of the most popular Marvel comics characters, especially among some actors out there who wanted the role. Strange Academy and Terror Inc. would have been more risky for Marvel to put out as they’re popular but not extremely well known properties for casual fans.
Xolo Mariduena recently talked about how he’s ready to take on the role if it was ever offered.
The next Marvel TV series is the retooled Daredevil: Born Again. This is a huge test for Marvel in their new way of doing TV. They’ve recently launched Captain America: Brave New World which took number one at the worldwide box office. Next up is Thunderbolts* on May 2nd, and Fantastic Four: First Steps on July 25th.
