Blue Box Ep. 19 “I’ve Got Plans” is the day of a cultural festival: a kind of open campus festival typical for Japanese schools, and is thus typical of school-focused slice of life anime in general. As it turns out, this anime is no different from them. However, it does have the advantage of that trope being done well. All thanks to Kouji Miura’s warmly hilarious writing at work here.

There’s many reasons why Chinatsu is sparkling so hard here.

After watching Blue Box Ep. 19 “I’ve Got Plans”, there’s really no doubt that the story is the best part of the episode. It’s just all so sweetly adorable. It’s like the anime equivalent of eating cotton candy. Just watching Taiki run around and enjoy the festival, and even a bit before it via hanging out with Chinatsu, is a nice and relaxing experience. Even moreso due to everyone getting at least some screen time. And I really do mean everyone. Everyone in Taiki’s school gets at least some time in the spotlight, with Chinatsu getting a bit more of the spotlight in this episode. It’s a nice tide of cameos to satisfy those who enjoy large casts in a show.

All with Telecom Animation Film and TMS Entertainment providing their usual level of quality animation to this episode. Their animation team has delivered yet another great-looking episode, and again, especially in the lighting department. The lighting is once more just gorgeous to look at. It’s so detailed that even without any other context, you can tell exactly where a character is based on how the light hits them. It’s truly a sight to look at.

Blue Box Ep. 19 “I’ve Got Plans”: The Bad

Alas, Taiki, you should’ve heard her the first time.

Alas, if you’re only here for the sports action, then Blue Box Ep. 19 “I’ve Got Plans” will disappoint you. There is a very brief moment of Taiki and Chinatsu playing around with basketball, but that’s it. There’s none of the usual high-intensity sports action since it is a cultural festival arc, after all.

So if you want action, then might I suggest watching Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no YaibaSolo LevelingKaiju No. 8DDDDDAN DA DAN, and/or Zenshu? Those anime should have more than enough action to satisfy your inner action junkie. At least, until Blue Box returns to its usual sports action. Which, judging by what we see in the last bits of this episode, won’t be in the next episode.

Tune back in to THS to find out more about Blue Box and other anime when we do.
