Ke Huy Quan is one of the most famous Asian-American actors in the present day. Not least of which is because he played Waymond Wang in Everything Everywhere All at Once and will play Marvin Gable in Love Hurts. Oh, and don’t forget his child actor roles in ’80s adventure films such as Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Data in The Goonies. Those were what catapulted his early acting career, after all.
Meanwhile, Lili Reinhart is most famous for her role in the Riverdale TV series. Mostly since she played Betty Cooper in that teen drama adaptation of the Archie comics. However, she has also starred in films such as the crime drama Hustlers and the romantic drama Chemical Hearts. Clearly, she has a thing for romance with a whole bunch of drama mixed in.
So what do Ke Huy Quan and Lili Reinhart have in common with each other? Well, normally not much. However, that will change when Bad Boy finally makes its ways to theaters. As soon as we know when or even what that will be, that is. And based on the scant details we have about that film, it’s going to be one bizarre horror film.
Bad Boy: Details
Deadline has just announce that Ke Huy Quan and Lili Reinhart will star in an upcoming horror film from Black Bear simply titled Bad Boy. This horror film will be a very unique one. Not because Quan will play a serial killer, or that Reinhart will play the prospective victim attempting to escape from him. No, it will be unique because the POV character will be the serial killer’s own dog. They are still working on exactly who will star in that role, but they are looking at a terrier to be that doggie. In fact, they even have an official synopsis for that film to tease the story. You can read that synopsis below:
Gary is a good boy who loves his new owner, Cameron (Ke Huy Quan). He gets treats and belly rubs and life is great. Gary isn’t allowed in the basement though. And even if he was, he can’t unlock doors. But there’s a girl (Lili Reinhart) in the basement. And she can’t come out to play. Gary doesn’t know it, but he’s her only chance.
Bonus: Director Notes
The director for Bad Boy will be Jacob Chase (Come Play, The Girl In The Woods), with Travis Braun as the script writer. In fact, Chase has a few words to say about this upcoming film that you can check out below:
I love dogs. More than people. And I’m tired of seeing horror movies where the dog is the first one to die! They’re not just pets, they’re our best friends, and I believe it’s time for a horror film where the dog is the hero. Bad Boy is about loyalty, instinct, and the incredible bond between humans and dogs. It’s going to be a highly original, grounded, deeply suspenseful fresh take on a horror thriller. And I’m thrilled to collaborate with Ke and Lili on two roles unlike anything they’ve played before.
Alas, we don’t know anything else beyond those details. No additional cast (if any) and certainly no release window, let alone a release date. We will have to await those details about Bad Boy at a later date.
Tune back in to THS to find out more about Bad Boy and other horror films when we do.
