Despite some tough box office competition, Dog Man beat out many others to be the top movie at the weekend box office.

Dog Man Takes A Bit Out Of The Box Office

Dog Man

Dog Man, the family-friendly animated film, had a strong debut according to Box Office Mojo. Securing the top spot at the box office with an impressive $36.0 million opening weekend. Based on the popular graphic novel series by Dav Pilkey; the film’s built-in fanbase helped propel it to success. With little competition in the family market, Dog Man managed to outperform expectations, solidifying itself as a major hit for younger audiences.

The sci-fi thriller Companion managed to pull in $9.5 million in its opening weekend, landing in second place. While not a massive debut, the film’s eerie premise and intriguing marketing campaign helped draw in genre fans. Reviews have been mixed, but strong audience interest could give Companion some legs in the coming weeks.

The Rest Of The Box Office

Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King continues to perform steadily, adding another $6.1 million to its domestic haul. The prequel’s worldwide total has been climbing, and despite now being several weeks into its run, it still holds a solid place in the box office rankings. Nostalgia and Disney’s reputation for animated storytelling have kept audiences coming back.

One of Them Days took fourth place with $6.0 million. The film’s ensemble cast and relatable humor have helped it maintain a strong presence despite dropping slightly from previous weeks. Word-of-mouth continues to play a key role in its sustained success at the box office, as audiences looking for a lighthearted escape keep turning out.

Flight Risk claimed the fifth spot at the box office with $5.6 million. While the thriller dropped from first to fifth, it has maintained a steady audience. Featuring an intense storyline and a star-studded cast, the film has found a niche among moviegoers craving high-stakes action.

Next Week’s Predictions

The big releases next week are Heart Eyes and Love Hurts.

Heart Eyes is looking to bring in $8 million to $15 million at the box office. It’s an unknown IP but it is the only horror movie in theatres right now. So it’ll likely do well. I estimate it’ll make $12 million.

Love Hurts is targeting an $8 million to $13 million opening. While it’s opening in more theatres than Heart Eyes, it seems like overall buzz for this movie is low. It also risks action movie fatigue as we’ve seen similar movies. Still, it has a short run time so it’ll have a chance to sell more tickets. Still, I don’t see it making more than $10 million. It’ll likely place second to Heart Eyes.

As always, we’ll find out next week!
