Netflix has just released a new clip from The Electric State. The upcoming sci-fi action film from the Russo Brothers stars Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt. Set to premiere globally on March 14, the film is based on Simon Stålenhag’s graphic novel. The story takes place in an alternate version of the ’90s after a robot uprising.

The Plot Of The Electric State

The story of The Electric State follows an orphaned teenager, played by Brown. She teams up with a cartoon-inspired robot, a smuggler, and his sidekick to search for her lost younger brother across the American West. The film also features a star-studded cast including Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Woody Norman, Giancarlo Esposito, and Stanley Tucci. It also includes voice performances from Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, and more.

The Electric State

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo; who also produce alongside Mike Larocca and Angela Russo-Otstot. The Electric State dives into themes central to Stålenhag’s work. Particularly how technology both helps and also harms us. In an interview, Joe Russo emphasized the dark, dystopian elements of the film; reflecting on the impact of technology and how it subtly alters our psychology. Additionally, the Netflix film is expected to have a “dark” tone. Furthermore, Russo assures it will also capture moments of hope, much like Stålenhag’s artwork.

The Russo Brothers are no strangers to big projects, having directed Avengers: Endgame. They’re set to return to the MCU with Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. With The Electric State, they bring their signature storytelling to a post-apocalyptic world, exploring the delicate balance between the benefits and dangers of advanced technology.

As the March 14 premiere date approaches, anticipation continues to grow for this highly-anticipated adaptation of Simon Stålenhag’s graphic novel. The Electric State is shaping up to be a major film release for Netflix in 2025.
