Zenshu Ep. 4 “ETERNITY” offers up a very interesting philosophical conundrum about immortality. That question is: what happens to an immortal’s mental state if they live in a world where virtually everyone else is a mortal? The answer: nothing good. It’s a question Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End asks, and it’s one that this episode asks as well. However, the answer this anime provides is certainly a lot less…conventional than what Frieren provides.
Zenshu Ep. 4 “ETERNITY”: Details
Zenshu Ep. 4 “ETERNITY” is the fourth episode (you can read my reviews for Ep. 1, Ep. 2, and Ep. 3 here) of this isekai fantasy anime series. Said anime series is not the anime adaptation of any manga, but rather, it is its own original anime. MAPPA (Zombie Land Saga, Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man) is the animation studio behind this anime series. Crunchyroll is the company licensing this anime for its global release.
Production Cast
Iho Ishikawa is the director behind Zenshu Ep. 4 “ETERNITY”, with Kimiko Ueno as the writer, Mitsue Yamazaki as the storyboarder, and Kayoko Ishikawa and Kazuko Hayakawa both sharing credit as the chief animation directors. As for Zenshu as a whole, we do still know that Mitsue Yamazaki is the director, with Kimiko Ueno as the script writer. Yoshiteru Tsujino is responsible for character design and world setting, with Kayoko Ishikawa also doing character design while also being the chief animation director alongside Etsuko Sumimoto, Kazuko Hayakawa, and Shuji Takahara. Sumie Noro is the assistant director, with Akio Shimada as the art director, Ayako Suenaga as the color designer, Kenta Fujita as the director of photography, Mutsumi Takemiya as the editor, Yukari Hashimoto as the composer, dugout as the sound producer, Makoto Tanimura (Sound Wing) as the casting manager, and Takahiro Ogawa as the animation producer.
Now as for that music: the opening theme song for Zenshu is “Zen” by Band-Maid. Meanwhile, “Tada, Kimo no Mama de” by Sou is the ending theme song.

Zenshu Ep. 4 “ETERNITY”: Synopsis
Alas, Zenshu only recently premiered. In fact, Zenshu Ep. 4 “ETERNITY” only just made its debut two days ago as of this writing. Thus, you will all get the official synopsis of this anime from Crunchyroll rather than a spoiler-filled plot summary. Here’s that synopsis below:
Natsuko notices that Memmeln is acting strange. In the movie, there is a scene with Memmeln that’s a mystery even to fans, so Natsuko tails her…
Zenshu Ep. 4 “ETERNITY”: The Good
Zenshu Ep. 4 “ETERNITY” continues the trend of the story being the best part about the anime. All centered around Natsuko finding out things about her favorite anime‘s world that wasn’t in the actual anime. Things that both intrigue her and disturb her, with Memmeln’s situation giving her a dose of both. I won’t give you any spoilers though. Let’s just say that those who have watched Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End will find Memmeln’s predicament all too familiar.
However, those familiar with Frieren will find the solution here to be a bit of a surprise. Again, no spoilers, but Natsuko’s solution somehow straddles the line between heartwarming, hilarious, and offbeat. It’s definitely a solution no one but an animator could think of, methinks. Oh, and it’s a solution that involves singing this time. Seriously, the song in this episode is amazing, both in looks and in sound. It’s almost like a scene right out of a Disney movie from how good it is.
Ah, but the story is still not the only good thing about this episode. The animation by MAPPA and their animation team still looks amazing. Especially the dancing and singing sequence. This is the best thing Natsuko has ever drawn because of them, and it even makes sense in-universe why. Oh, and the food continues to look delicious because of that animation. It doesn’t have to be since this isn’t a food anime, but it is.
Zenshu Ep. 4 “ETERNITY”: The Bad
That said, even though I found the way Natsuko solves this episode’s problem to be funny, I found it was also a bit…iffy because of that comedy. I feel like some bits of the situation that should’ve been taken seriously is instead taken for comedy. It’s a minor detail, true, but it’s enough to make me think more deeply on the subject and how it might’ve been handled just a bit better.
Aside from that though, there’s not a whole lot of action in Zenshu Ep. 4 “ETERNITY”. In fact, all of the action is in memory form from Natsuko’s memories of the anime. If you want more action than that, then you might want to check out Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Solo Leveling, Kaiju No. 8, DDDD, DAN DA DAN, and/or Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II. Those anime should have more than enough action to satisfy your action junkie cravings until Zenshu gets back to that action.
Tune back in to THS to find out more about Zenshu and other anime when we do.
