Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel are teaming up for a Masters of the Universe film. That much was already known, but now, we know that Jared Leto will play the villain Skeletor in the film. He joins newcomers Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafthor Bjornsson as Goat Man, and Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops. That’s in addition to the already announced cast of Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Idris Elba as Duncan, Man-At-Arms, Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, and Camila Mendes as Teela.

Skeletor is a powerful sorceror, who is the archnemesis of He-Man and enemy of Eternia. Trap Jaw is Skeletor’s right hand man and known for his cybernetic enhancements. The other two villains Goat Man and Tri-Klops are lesser known but powerful foes for He-Man and his friends. The plot of Masters of the Universe is still being kept under wraps but we do know that Travis Knight is directing a script by Chris Butler. David Callaham and Aaron and Adam Nee previously worked on the initial draft. The film is set for a worldwide theatrical release on June 5th, 2026.

Our Thoughts On Jared Leto As Skeletor And What Are The Masters Of The Universe?

The Masters Of The Universe were introduced as a toy line by Mattel in 1982. The animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe debuted a year later in 1983. It became one of the first children’s programs to be syndicated on television during its two-season run. There have been several spin-offs and a feature film that followed, including one that starred Dolph Lundgren as He-Man.

Now for Jared Leto. I know, I know. There are going to be fans out there that absolutely hate this casting choice. But, Leto is the type of performer to dial it up when it comes to something like this. We’ll have to see how the makeup and costumes look, but he could do a fantastic job as Skeletor. His next project is Tron: Ares from Disney, which releases on October 10th, 2025.
