Scream 7 is looking like a mix of the old and the new with a return from Gale Weathers and Courteney Cox. Variety is reporting that the actress has signed on to join Neve Campbell, Anna Camp, Mason Gooding, Isabel May, McKenna Grace, and Celeste O’Connor. Isabel May will play Sidney Prescott’s daughter in the film. Gooding will reprise his role as Chad Meeks-Martin from Scream 5/6.
Scream 7 is set to hit theaters on February 27th, 2026. It’s directed by franchise steward Kevin Williamson with a script from Guy Busick. James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, and Paul Neinstein will produce for Project X Entertainment.
Cox was previously in Scream 6 while Neve Campbell was not, due to a salary dispute. It was the first time we saw Gale without Dewey in the films, after he was killed off in Scream 5. Cox has come out with dismay over that choice in the fifth movie, and hopes they can bring him back somehow for more films.
The Behind-The-Scenes Issues With Scream 7
Scream 7 has seen some major turmoil behind the scenes even before it went into production. It was originally set to be directed by Christopher Landon with Radio Silence dropping out to direct Abigail and Ready Or Not 2. Scream 5 and VI star Melissa Barerra was fired by Spyglass Media for her comments on the Israel-Palestine conflict. Jenna Ortega also had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts with Wednesday and other projects. The two leading ladies signaled the end of that era of the franchise. Landon dropped out as director soon after. Kevin Williamson was brought on in his stead to direct the film with a script from Guy Busick and James Vanderbilt.
The Scream films have made almost a billion at the worldwide box office with Scream 6 earning $169 million at the worldwide box office, overtaking the record held by Scream. Another hit with Scream 7 and it would put them over the billion mark.
