Kraven the Hunter is one of the most widely anticipated superhero films of 2024. Mostly because it’s not quite a superhero film in the conventional sense. Apparently, Sony Pictures has decided to craft a dark antihero story of a man who just wants his sweet taste of revenge. All in the bloodiest and most violent way possible. Seriously, there’s a reason why it has a R rating from the MPA. All you need to do is watch a single trailer and see the blood and body parts fly to get the truth of that.

It’s exactly why we here at That Hashtag Show wanted to get an interview with the man behind much of that carnage: Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who plays Kraven in the titular movie. Don’t believe me? Then why not check out the interview below, and see for yourself if you want an in-depth look at the inner workings of Kraven the Hunter from the star lead himself?

Kraven The Hunter: Aaron Taylor-Johnson Interview | THS: Details

He looks remarkably neater without the blood splatter.

That Hashtag Show is proud to present our exclusive interview on YouTube with Aaron Taylor-Johnson: who played the starring role in Kraven the Hunter. In this interview, we get an in-depth look at what’s going on behind the scenes in this bloody not-superhero film. Here are the details:

Aaron Taylor-Johnson and His Own Stunts

Aaron Taylor Johnson in Columbia Pictures and Marvel KRAVEN THE HUNTER

The very first thing THS asks Aaron Taylor-Johnson is about him doing his own stunts for Kraven The Hunter. Now to clarify: Johnson does give credit to his “fantastic” stunt crew, which included a grand total of “five stunt doubles“. However, he does mention that he was “invited into this family”, which caused him to view his stunt crew’s jobs in a new light. It “demanded” that he give his role everything he had. All in order to give the audience the best possible experience with as few cuts as possible.

Amazingly, this resulted in Aaron Taylor-Johnson putting on 200 lbs of muscle over the course of shooting Kraven The Hunter. All just to more look like Kraven, and give him the animalistic and fluid movement he expected Kraven to have. There’s apparently a whole “man versus machine” feel the movie had going for him, and Johnson really wanted to fulfill the role that feel demanded of him. Even if he has to go up against a metaphorical “double-decker bus” for the machine side of things. Fortunately, he found the whole process quite “exciting to do”, so it all goes well in the end.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Favorite Kraven Kill

Aaron Taylor Johnson in Columbia Pictures and Marvel KRAVEN THE HUNTER

Apparently, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is a fan of spears. Specifically: the way Kraven throws spears in the Kraven the Hunter comics. He likes the dynamic way Kraven just leaps up and throws his spears at his prey. According to him, it has a “power and dynamic” to it that he has come to associate with the artists’ beautiful work in the comics about Kraven. In fact, he has tried to mimic that feel to the comics in the film. Whether he carried it out successfully is something up for debate. However, you can’t deny that he clearly enjoyed playing Kraven in the film, and will just as likely enjoy playing him in any future films.

Kraven vs. Spider-Man

At some point, Kraven the Hunter is going to have to fight Spider-Man. After all, he’s one of Spidey’s principle archnemeses. Thus, we here at THS were very interested in what Aaron Taylor-Johnson thought about having to do that.

And yet, Aaron Taylor-Johnson answers that question in a roundabout way. He cares more about what the audience might think of that fight, and he does raise up some good points. If the audience cares about Kraven’s character, his life, and his personality; then and only then will it matter if he thinks Kraven the Hunter can go “toe to toe” with other superheroes like Spider-Man. In fact, Johnson insists that fight “wouldn’t disappoint”. Given his energy and excitement throughout the interview, I think it’s safe to say that he’s very excited for a potential sequel to arrive as much as the fans are. We’ll just have to cross our fingers and hope that Sony greenlights that sequel at some point in the future.

Until then, we can just as eagerly await the actual theatrical screening of Kraven the Hunter on December 13, 2024. In fact, you can purchase tickets for the film right now from Fandango.

Tune back in to THS to find out more about Kraven the Hunter and other superhero films when we do.
