Voltron is one of the most famous mecha series here in NA region. Ever since this animated series first made its debut on September 10, 1984 with Lion Force Voltron, the franchise has garnered a legion of fans over the decades. I mean, who wouldn’t want to watch a show about giant robots saving the day? Especially since it was the first time most folks in NA had ever seen an anime? Even if they didn’t know it at the time?
No, I’m not kidding. Voltron isn’t actually entirely original. The first two series were actually made using footage from the anime series Beast King GoLion and Armored Fleet Dairugger XV, just with the footage taken apart and stitched back together to make a new story. Oh, and with redubbed voice lines in English, obviously. A lot of anime series gained traction in the 1980’s because of tactics like this. Macross became famous in NA largely in part due to its Robotech adaptation by Harmony Gold. It’s no surprise that Voltron would have similar roots.
It does explain why Amazon MGM Studios is making a live-action adaptation of that Voltron series. Alas, we have no idea what it’s called or even what the exact title is. However, we do have an ever-growing list of stars for the cast. A cast which now has three more members to it.
Voltron Movie: New Cast Additions Details
Deadline has just revealed that Amazon MGM Studios has just added three more cast members to the cast of their upcoming Voltron live-action film. Please welcome Sterling K. Brown (The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story, This is Us, Black Panther), Rita Ora (Fifty Shades of Grey, Detective Pikachu), and John Kim (The Pacific, The Librarians, Pandora). The three of them will be joining the existing cast of the film, which includes Daniel Quinn-Toye and Henry Cavill.
Other than that, we still know that Rawson Marshall Thurber is directing the film and Ellen Shanman. Everything else about the Voltron film is still a mystery though. We don’t even know when we’re going to see it. We’ll just have to wait for MGM Amazon to tell us that at a later date.
Tune back in to THS to find out more about Voltron and other live-action adaptations of anime when we do.
