The How to Train Your Dragon franchise is perhaps one of DreamWorks Animation’s most successful and famous media franchises next to Shrek. It’s not hard to see why either. Hiccup and Toothless’s journey together as human and dragon has captured the hearts of critics and audiences alike, with all three mainline entries in the animated film series have earned praise from both. Heck, the very first film earned 99% from critics over 210 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s definitely a sign that this DreamWorks franchise is here to stay.

Indeed, you need look for no further proof of that than the upcoming live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon. As a matter of fact, that very adaptation has just dropped a brand new teaser trailer to hype itself up. Don’t believe me? Then why not check out that teaser below, and see for yourself if you too want to follow Hiccup and Toothless’s journey in glorious live-action?

How to Train Your Dragon Live-Action Adaptation: Official Teaser Trailer Details

This really does feel like watching a live-action version of HTTYD, complete with a UHD Toothless.

Universal Pictures is proud to reveal the first official teaser trailer for the live-action How to Train Your Dragon on YouTube. Said trailer shows off, well, everything you could ever want in a live-action adaptation of an animated film. From the gorgeous HD textures on Toothless, to Hiccup’s nasally adorably figure (played by Mason Thames), and the deep tones of Stoick’s voice (played by Gerard Butler); it all feels like a loving homage to the DreamWorks film. It seems that director Dean DeBlois has learned from previous adaptations. Both where they got it wrong, and where they got it right. More for the latter though, thankfully. We can only hope that the actual film will do the same when we see it.

Alas, it will be a while before we can do just that. The end of the teaser reveals that How to Train Your Dragon will make its theatrical debut on June 13, 2025. Unfortunately, tickets are most definitely not on sale yet. We will have to wait for that at a later date. Check out Fandango as we get closer to that debut date for how to get those tickets.

Tune back in to THS to find out more about How to Train Your Dragon and other DreamWorks projects when we do.
